What is the specific model provided?
Netgear Nighthawk XR1000. This is Netgear’s latest Pro Gaming model, which features WiFi 6 and the latest DumaOS 3.0 operating system.
What is the monthly cost and will a technician need to install it?
Yes, one of our technicians will professionally install the equipment. Pro-gaming router is $12.95 per month and includes 1 device. Limit of one device per household. Activation and installation cost is additional.
What do I need in order to get the Nighthawk Pro Gaming router?
Internet service from Astound is required. Speed of 250Mbps or higher recommended. For optimal performance, renting our modem is recommended. Customer owned modem is an option.
Is there an app?
Yes, you can download the Netgear app to view and control basic functionality for your network. To adjust more detailed performance settings, you’ll log into your router and use the online dashboard.
Can you use this router if you’re not a gamer?
Absolutely. It delivers great WiFi, with the latest WiFi 6 technology. You can do more customization of your network settings with this option, including prioritizing types of traffic or devices to allocate bandwidth to the most important functions (important online zoom meeting vs. kids Netflix). If you need coverage over large square footage, Whole Home WiFi is probably a better solution for you because it is scalable to larger areas.
What is Net Duma/Duma OS?
Duma is the operating system that runs on the XR1000 that enables the customization for ping reduction and other network optimization functions.
How do I optimize settings for my game?
We recommend that customers go to the Net Duma site and search for their game to get specific step by step instructions. User guides for geo-filtering, QoS and other settings can be found HERE.
How does this router reduce ping?
Geo-Filtering and Geo-fencing give you control over the geographic area where the hosting and players for your game. QoS enables you to prioritize traffic or devices to maximize bandwidth on your network.
What is WiFi 6?
This new standard of WiFi is ready to support more devices with better reliability and faster speeds. Delivering four times better performance than AC WiFi, WiFi 6 allows more devices to connect and stream simultaneously, without impacting speed or reliability, by efficiently packing and scheduling data.
Are Netgear security features (Armor) and parental controls available?
Armor is available; this service can be purchased directly from Netgear. Armor can be set and controlled through the app. Netgear’s parental controls are not available on this router.
