Newport, OR – October 15, 2025 – Astound, a recognized leader in WiFi, mobile, TV and fiber-optic solutions, today announced that is has completed construction of Newport’s first fiber optic network, bringing the community’s more than 5,000 homes, along with 900 business and commercial locations, easy access to symmetrical internet speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second.

Astound invested $4.6 million to complete approximately 55 miles of new fiber infrastructure throughout Newport. Along with all homes in the community, the area’s ‘anchor institutions,’ such as government buildings, schools, fire houses, libraries, and clinics, can also access the network. In addition, Astound has included more than 300 South Beach area homes in the fiber build, upgrading the hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) that was previously in-place. Astound engineered the network with a combination of above- and below-ground construction.

With the new network supporting the fastest connectivity speeds Newport has had to date, area households can now work, stream content, play games, and browse at lightning speeds without slowdowns, and will have improved reliability, supported by wall-to-wall WiFi 7 technology. Symmetrical speeds deliver equally fast uploads and downloads, especially advantageous for Newport’s remote workers, who often engage with video calls and content creation. Residents can also enjoy 4K streaming that enables anyone to watch their favorite shows in ultra-high definition, with little to no interruptions or pauses for loading. Volunteers prepared & distributed 150 meals to Hunt Residents

SAN MARCOS, TX – September 29, 2025 – On September 20, Astound volunteers rallied in Kerr County to continue their efforts in supporting the community following the devastating summer flash floods. Astound partnered with American Core to provide barbecue lunches for those affected by the floods in Hunt.

“We’re proud to stand alongside our neighbors during this time of need,” said Mike Carrosquilla, SVP and General Manager of Astound. “After successfully distributing 600 food servings in Marble Falls last month, we’re pleased to continue our relief efforts in Hunt, lending a helping hand to those affected by the floods and those working tirelessly in the recovery effort.”

American Core is a nonprofit organization focused on improving wellness through outdoor activities and motorcycle riding. The organization, which emerged from the motorcycle community, provides veterans and first responders with therapeutic trips, events, and family campouts designed to foster healing and community support. American Core is mobilizing teams in the affected areas to aid in the rescue and recovery effort.
