  • Mr. SOUL! (Max) – The true story of Mr. Soul!, America’s first “Black Tonight Show” and its host, Ellis Haizlip, who paved the way for other Black talk show hosts like Oprah and Arsenio. 
  • Becoming (Netflix) – Join first lady Michelle Obama as she tours the U.S. and documents her life, hopes and relationships.

Leaders Who Paved the Way

Charles Hamilton Houston revealed the hollowness of the “separate but equal” doctrine and paved the way for the Supreme Court ruling prohibiting school segregation.

Harry T. and Harriette Moore were a couple active in the civil rights movement who paid the ultimate price for the freedoms they won for their community.

James Weldon Johnson was a prominent lawyer and diplomat who served as an executive secretary at NAACP for a decade and wrote the lyrics to “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
