Another big event in the ATVN viewing area over the summer months is the summer basketball leagues and various tournaments.
It’s not only a way to check out how “next year’s” teams are slowly coming together–mixing in newer players while trying to replace graduated seniors–but also for hearing some rumors and bonafide storylines to keep an eye on when planning for the upcoming winter scholastic season.
First, here are a few pictures I took on location of some of this summer’s basketball games.
Secondly, there’s a few teams that have clearly distinguished themselves so far this summer.
The teams that have made the biggest impression and appear to be the ‘teams to beat’ in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and Colonial League this summer seem to be Parkland, Allentown Central Catholic and Palmerton. Emmaus is another team that has had some nice wins but I believe is still looking for that “third scoring option” that is so important for championship-caliber teams to have.
Bethlehem Catholic is another team that should be very solid next year but is trying to find someone to take over the “leadership” role for the 2023-24 season.
Right behind them are Executive Charter, Whitehall and Liberty high schools. All three of these schools have a number of underclassmen returning who have been improving in both local games and AAU traveling tourneys over the last few months.
There are a number of other teams that have shown flashes but are still looking to improve for next year–teams like Northampton, Nazareth, Saucon Valley, Bangor, Easton and others that hopefully can take advantage of the next month to use as a springboard to move themselves into the upper levels of their respective leagues.
