Girls Lacrosse Recaps ’26

It was certainly an interesting turn-of-events for the District XI girls lacrosse championships!

Despite an ominous forecast, the decision was made to go ahead with the title game last Wednesday.  It seemed to be the correct decision as a quick thunderstorm blew through the game site 20 minutes before the scheduled start of the game and the radar looked like it was going to allow both contests to be played with a delayed start.

As the winds and sheets of rain picked up however, the Lehigh University’s stadium lights and scoreboard blew out and it quickly became apparent that the facility was without power (the teams and officials were locked down in a completely dark room with no windows as the rain and winds howled outside).

After a 90-minute wait (and no indication the power would be fixed anytime soon), the decision was made to delay the games 24 hours. When the games were eventually played, there were even more fireworks.

Southern Lehigh won a record setting sixth consecutive district championship in the 2A title game.  In the 3A nightcap, Nazareth held a 10-5 lead with roughly 8 minutes left in the third quarter before Rylee Rath took over the game.  She not only dominated the draw controls for the remainder of the night but she ended up with seven goals (and two assists), as Pleasant Valley won the championship in overtime. (The Blue Eagles actually trailed by a goal late before they tied the game and forced OT.)
