Some have been lost in the sands of time and others, soon to be<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rediscovered, will become fan favorites for a whole new generation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Each week we will feature just one of the many hidden gems that you can see on ATVN with insights and commentaries on classic television shows and legendary cinematic<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">performances.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Spy thriller fans will\u00a0probably argue\u00a0forever about whether Sean Connery,<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Roger Moore or Daniel Craig is the best James Bond ever.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But several years before Barry Nelson played the \u201cJimmy Bond\u201d character<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in an episode of \u201cClimax,&#8221; titled, \u201cCasino Royale,\u201d you can make a strong<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">argument that Brian Donlevy was the first actor to play a 007-esque<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">character on the screen.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Donlevy starred as the suave and sophisticated undercover spy in the early<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1950s classic television show &#8220;Dangerous Assignment,&#8221; where he was sent<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to exotic locations to complete impossible missions, using wit and fighting<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">techniques (along with some unique technological gadgets)\u00a0in order to\u00a0save<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the world from villainy.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Right down to a quick opening teaser before the credits (over a decade<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">before the first full-length Bond film, &#8220;Dr. No&#8221;) the format for the on-screen<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">spy\u00a0film was born. Shortly after the introduction, Steve Michell (Donleavy)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">would report to his supervisor&#8217;s office (there was no &#8220;Moneypenny&#8221; yet)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">who would outline his upcoming mission, give key facts about the plot and<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">supply him with the technology and inside information necessary for<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">defeating his nemesis for that evening&#8217;s program.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From there, Mitchell would travel the world, charm women (his delivery<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">paralleled Humphrey Bogart more than any actor who would later handle<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the role of Bond) and escape death-defying predicaments, with some rather<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">uniquely choreographed fight scenes. Like\u00a0almost every\u00a0James Bond film,<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mitchell always won the day in the end but did feature very intriguing<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">storylines and exciting climaxes worth watching.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Guest stars included Hugh Beaumont who, within a couple\u00a0years\u00a0would find<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">success as Ward Cleaver on the classic &#8220;Leave it to Beaver&#8221; shows and<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Harry Guardino, who also guest starred in over a hundred television<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">programs spanning a four\u00a0decades\u00a0career, in shows ranging from &#8220;Studio<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One&#8221; to &#8220;Murder, She Wrote.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Another guest star includes a rare on-air TV performance by Paul Frees<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">who performed many commercial voice-overs and created famous cartoon<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">voices and was even regarded as the original &#8220;man of a thousand voices&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(according to &#8220;The A to Z of Old Time Radio&#8221;) while working in the same<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">time period\u00a0as the venerable voice master, Mel Blanc.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Despite having success on NBC radio, the show initially\u00a0failed to\u00a0grab a<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">network television sponsor. Donlevy then invested his own money and<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">produced the first 39 episodes before it was eventually picked up and later<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">distributed by NBC television.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;Assignment&#8221; additionally produced a total 167 radio programs made both<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">before and after its run on the small screen.
