The answer is Jeopardy<\/em><\/a>!<\/p>\n

I have always been very competitive.\u00a0 I want to win at pretty much everything that is a form of competition.\u00a0 With that said, I am not a sore loser.\u00a0 When that happens, I do congratulate my opponent, appreciate their skill, and look forward to the next time when I have a chance to gain some possible revenge.<\/p>\n

I believe this is why I am a huge Jeopardy fan.\u00a0 I tape it every night.\u00a0 I just love the battle and, knowing that ten million people on average watch the show each night, I am not alone.\u00a0 That interest is created because every viewer at home can play along \u2013 every viewer can compete.\u00a0 I am sure we all test our knowledge, subliminally become a contestant, and self-determine whether we won the night.\u00a0 It is so easy to sit in your recliner and bet it all on Final Jeopardy<\/em> and hope for the best.<\/p>\n

But first, I need to do well during the first and second round and that depends so much on the categories.\u00a0 Here are the Top Ten Jeopardy<\/em> categories and my reaction to each of them when they are announced:<\/p>\n

#1)<\/strong>\u00a0Before & After<\/strong> \u2013 I have a fighting chance here having lived long before<\/u> many contestants and continuing to live after<\/u>.<\/p>\n

#2)<\/strong>\u00a0Science<\/strong> \u2013 Boy, I hope this just skims the surface of the category \u2013 E still equals MC2<\/sup>, right?<\/p>\n

#3)<\/strong>\u00a0Literature<\/strong> \u2013 As an English teacher, I should know the answers to these questions.\u00a0 But just think of the added pressure attached when you SHOULD<\/strong> know these answers and the embarrassment when you do not.<\/p>\n

#4)<\/strong>\u00a0American History<\/strong> \u2013 Well, I live in America; I am old; I read the newspaper; I watch the news \u2013 bring it on!!<\/p>\n

#5) <\/strong>Potpourri<\/strong> \u2013 I have always known a great deal about stuff that has very little importance until now when this category comes up.<\/p>\n

#6)<\/strong>\u00a0World History<\/strong> \u2013 This one ranks right up there with Geography for me.\u00a0 By ranks, I mean as one of the worst categories.\u00a0 I should have paid better attention in class.<\/p>\n

#7)<\/strong>\u00a0Word Origins<\/strong> \u2013 See #3 \u201cLiterature\u201d.<\/p>\n

#8)<\/strong>\u00a0Colleges & Universities<\/strong> \u2013 I went to a college and two universities; I have degrees; I broadcast college sports \u2013 I have a fighting chance.<\/p>\n

#9)<\/strong>\u00a0History<\/strong> \u2013 Not \u201cWorld\u201d or \u201cAmerican\u201d \u2013 what else is there?<\/p>\n

#10)<\/strong>\u00a0Sports<\/strong> \u2013 Now we\u2019re talking.\u00a0 I better know this (the embarrassment factor is, also, at work here if I miss).\u00a0 And most of the contestants are knowledge geeks, but not sports geeks. I remember on one show when all the contestants missed all five answers when the category was \u201cThe NFL<\/a>\u201d. \u00a0I knew them all \u2013 so, there!<\/p>\n

So each night, I give it my all.\u00a0 I hope the Final Jeopardy category gives me a fighting chance.\u00a0 I always bet it all.<\/p>\n

I confidently yell out the answers and, for some reason, my wife takes great satisfaction when I am wrong.\u00a0 I do not know why she has to laugh so hard at my ignorance.\u00a0 I certainly do not think it is funny.<\/p>\n

There is added interest in the game right now as various guest hosts have come on to stand in for the late Alex Trebek.\u00a0 I have my favorites already, but that may be a blog for another time.<\/p>\n

For now, the answer is \u201cJeopardy\u201d<\/em>.\u00a0 The question, \u201cWhat is my favorite game show?\u201d<\/p>\n

ABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. The 76ers<\/a> have earned the #1 seed in the NBA<\/a> Eastern Conference. It is their third #1 seed in 44 years.\u00a0 They last did it in 2000-01.\u00a0 They did it in 1982-83 when they won their last NBA title.\u00a0 They will have home court advantage throughout the playoffs.\u00a0 They will start by playing the #8 team after #7 – #10 play-in round.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    1. There will be no Triple Crown winner in horse racing this year. Medina Spirit \u201cwon\u201d the Kentucky Derby<\/a> but failed the post-race drug test.\u00a0 He finished third in the Preakness<\/a>, which probably casts more doubt on the legitimacy of his Derby victory.\u00a0 Rombauer won and paid 11-1.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      1. I have complained before that Major League baseball<\/a> is hard to watch, primarily because of the pace of the game and the lack of action. More proof came out this week with1\/5 of the season completed.\u00a0 There is little offensive production.\u00a0 There have been 1,000 more strikeouts than hits.\u00a0 In April, the combined batting average was .232, less than one hit for every four at bats.\u00a0 No team looks exceptional with only five teams just barely winning 60% of their games with the best being the Chicago White Sox<\/a> at 62%.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \n
        1. With the Covid mandates easing up, it may not be too long before I can actually announce a game from the venue. It was way back in March of 2020 that I actually attended an event that I broadcast.\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait to emerge myself into the atmosphere of a LIVE game again.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
            \n
          1. The top four teams are left in the EPC<\/a> playoffs after the quarterfinals \u2013 1) Liberty<\/a>, 2) Parkland<\/a>, 3) Emmaus<\/a>, and 4) Pleasant Valley<\/a>. We will have the championship game for you LIVE on Wednesday at 4:30pm on RCN-TV.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
