The Super Bowl<\/a> is serious business.\u00a0 After all, a 30-second commercial this year costs $5.6 million, compared to last year\u2019s $5.1 million.\u00a0 By comparison, baseball\u2019s World Series costs $500,000 for 30 seconds; the Oscars cost $2.6 million.\u00a0 NFL football, as you can see, means big bucks.<\/p>\n

Just as big is all the money bet on the game.\u00a0 It is estimated that a billion dollars will be legally bet on the game this year in 20 states.\u00a0 Las Vegas Sportsbook won $18.7 million in 1919 of the $154.7 million bet.\u00a0 It is estimated that about 7% of the US population (23 million) bet on the game in 2019.\u00a0 This year, Caesar\u2019s Sportsbook took in a single $120,000 bet on the Chiefs less than 24 hours after the line was posted.<\/p>\n

It is easy to place your bets on who will win, how many points will be scored, which team will cover the point spread, etc. These less complex bets are made across the country, not only at legal gambling sites, but in homes during Super Bowl parties (though probably not so much this year).\u00a0 In other words, betting on the big game is almost expected no matter how you decide to do it.<\/p>\n

But I thought you might be interested in some of the \u201cfun\u201d bets you can make on the game.\u00a0 As of last count there were 1,218 ways to bet on the Super Bowl.\u00a0 The more interesting and unique bets are called \u201cprop\u201d bets.\u00a0 Here are a few:<\/p>\n

  1. Which team wins the toss of the coin? (six of the last seven have been heads)<\/li>\n
  2. Will there be a score in the first five minutes?<\/li>\n
  3. Will a field goal attempt hit the upright?<\/li>\n
  4. Which will be shorter \u2013 the National Anthem or a scoring drive?<\/li>\n
  5. What will be the first song sung by The Weekend at halftime?<\/li>\n
  6. Who will be the special guest at halftime?<\/li>\n
  7. What color will the Gatorade bath given to the winning coach be?<\/li>\n
  8. How many times will Tom Brady\u2019s wife be shown during the telecast?<\/li>\n
  9. Will the last play of each half be a quarterback rush?<\/li>\n
  10. Will a lineman score a TD?<\/li>\n
  11. Will any team score a 4th<\/sup> down touchdown?<\/li>\n
  12. How many players will throw a pass?<\/li>\n
  13. How many times will Bill Belichick be mentioned?<\/li>\n
  14. Will either President Biden or former President Trump be mentioned?<\/li>\n
  15. Who will the MVP thank first \u2013 team, family, fans, or God?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Obviously, the most important thing is to enjoy the game, but if you want to have some fun that can last throughout the entire broadcast, try some of these bets on your friends.<\/p>\n

    ABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. There was an interesting NFL<\/a> trade made on Saturday night. And it literally was a trade.\u00a0 QB Matthew Stafford of the Lions<\/a> was traded for QB Jared Goff of the Rams<\/a>.\u00a0 The Rams threw in a 3rd<\/sup> round pick this year and two 1st<\/sup> round picks in \u201922 and \u201923.\u00a0 It appears both teams benefited from this trade.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Did you know that the AFC team in the Super Bowl has won five of the past six Super Bowls? Not only that, they have covered the point spread in the same five of six?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
          \n
        1. There is obviously no quarterback problem for either the Bucs<\/a> or the Chiefs<\/a> with Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles<\/a> cannot say the same thing.\u00a0 New head coach Nick Siriani has two quarterbacks, both of whom want to be starters – Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts.\u00a0 My guess is that one of them will be gone.\u00a0 Which one would you trade away?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. The stock market, to me, is just another form of gambling. That is why I never understood one being so acceptable and another, for many years, shrouded in illegality and secrecy.\u00a0 Some might say the stock market offers bigger risks and, possibly, a more devastating outcome for people.\u00a0 With that said, I wish I understood the Gamestop controversy.\u00a0 I read about it, but I can\u2019t say I understand it.\u00a0 I\u2019ll wait for the movie to come out.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            1. Covid hit our broadcast team harder this week than at any other time. Of the five games we had scheduled, only two were played.\u00a0 Actually, two different games were scheduled for this past Sunday and both ended up being postponed.\u00a0 So two out of six.\u00a0 The postponements came late after all the crews were set and the prep work was completed.\u00a0 We will try again this week, but let\u2019s add a major snowstorm to the mix to further complicate the season.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
