Well, we are six games into the NFL<\/a><\/strong> season and what do we know? I think we\u00a0know that we didn\u2019t know much about this year. Who would have believed that\u00a0the Chiefs<\/a><\/strong>, Cowboys<\/a><\/strong>, and Rams<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0would currently be on losing streaks? Would\u00a0you believe that the Saints<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and the Panthers<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0could both be on winning streaks\u00a0AFTER they lost their starting quarterbacks?<\/p>\n

Thank goodness (or of all teams why them?) the New England Patriots<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0just\u00a0continue to win, although even they haven\u2019t looked all that invincible despite\u00a0going 6-0. And teams like the 49\u2019ers<\/a><\/strong> (5-0), Bills<\/a><\/strong> (4-1), and Texans<\/a><\/strong> (4-2) are\u00a0surprising us.\u00a0\u00a0That leads me to the NFC East \u2013 no team has a winning record! Dallas and the\u00a0Eagles<\/a><\/strong> are 3-3; the Giants<\/a><\/strong> are 2-4; and the Redskins<\/a><\/strong> are 1-5 (they replaced their\u00a0coach this week and barely beat the hapless Dolphins<\/a><\/strong>). So who wins the\u00a0Division?<\/p>\n

The Cowboys looked great the first three weeks against weak teams. They have\u00a0looked anything like a team guaranteed the NFC East title in a mediocre (and\u00a0that\u2019s kind) division. \u201cAmerica\u2019s team\u201d is now mired in a three-game losing\u00a0streak. They even lost this past week to the New York Jets<\/a><\/strong> (1-4). There are\u00a0rumblings of discontent about their head coach and the team just seems lethargic\u00a0at times during the game. Not many positives coming out of Dallas for a team\u00a0that started 3-0.<\/p>\n

Then, there is the Eagles. They have serious problems in their secondary. This\u00a0past Sunday against the Vikings<\/a><\/strong>, the secondary was not competitive. It became\u00a0obvious that Rasoul Douglas and Sidney Jones cannot cover the top receivers in\u00a0the NFL without help. Will the injured Ronald Darby and Avonte Maddox solve\u00a0the problem? Jalen Mills still hasn\u2019t played. There is no deep threat on the\u00a0offensive side, so Carson Wentz is stuck throwing short passes, primarily to his\u00a0two tight ends. This means if you \u201cget behind the sticks\u201d, drives stall. This adds
\nup to losses.<\/p>\n

The Giants do not look like contenders, even though they are improved and the\u00a0presence of Saquon Barkley (expected back next game) could certainly make\u00a0them dangerous. Their offensive line does not look at all like championship\u00a0material. If the Giants win this year, the division should be ashamed of\u00a0themselves.<\/p>\n

Then, there is the Redskins. We now know they are better than the Dolphins, but\u00a0so, too, are the other 30 teams in the league. Enough said.\u00a0It is hard to say who will win the NFC East. It may be easier to say which team\u00a0will lose it less.<\/p>\n

Eagles\u2019 fans should not get too discouraged just yet. Remember, no one else in\u00a0that division is very good either.<\/p>\n

ABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Quarterbacks are often given too much credit for wins and too much blame for\u00a0losses, but the performance by Sam Darnold of the previously winless New\u00a0York Jets over the Dallas Cowboys seems to disprove the adage. Darnold,\u00a0who missed three games due to mononucleosis, passed for 383 yards and two\u00a0TDs. The Jets looked like a different team. Give credit to the quarterback.<\/p>\n

2. Don\u2019t bet on the Atlanta Falcons<\/a><\/strong>. They are snake bitten. This past week, they\u00a0fought their way back to within a point needing only an extra point to tie the\u00a0game. Of course, they missed it and lost to the Cardinals<\/a>. They were in the\u00a0Super Bowl three years ago and now they are 1-5.<\/p>\n

3. I am not a Yankees<\/a><\/strong> fan, but baseball needed them in the playoffs. Television\u00a0was hoping for a Yankees-Dodgers<\/a> World Series, I\u2019m sure, but the Yankees-Astros<\/a><\/strong> series will be every bit as entertaining for the Division championship.\u00a0\u00a0The walk-off home run by Carlos Correa on Sunday night in the 11 th inning\u00a0showcased baseball at its best.<\/p>\n

4. When there is a 2-1 vote, 2 usually wins, right? Not in the case of Gabe\u00a0Kapler, the former Phillies<\/a><\/strong> manager. John Middleton, the Phillies\u2019 managing\u00a0partner, overruled his president and his general manager, both of whom\u00a0wanted to keep Kapler. The Phillies are now looking for a manager. It\u2019s good\u00a0to be king!<\/p>\n

5. Parkland<\/a> travels to Easton <\/a>with District XI<\/a> ramifications this weekend on\u00a0RCN-TV. The game will be broadcast LIVE at 7:00PM.<\/p>\n
