It happens around this time every year. We start to get complaints that a viewer\u2019s team\u00a0has not been shown. The questions are often the same: Why aren\u2019t you doing this team?\u00a0Why is this team on so often? Why are you predominantly focusing on one league? etc.<\/p>\n

I suppose we could take this as a compliment that viewers want to see us cover their\u00a0team. I\u2019d like to think the RCN gang does a great job and, therefore, you want our\u00a0production at your game. I am also not na\u00efve and realize you may just want to see your\u00a0son or daughter on TV. I get it.<\/p>\n

So, allow me a chance to explain the process. A schedule is sought weeks before the\u00a0actual start of the season. In other words, before any games are even played, a\u00a0preliminary schedule for the football season is published. Obviously, this involves some\u00a0picking of games based on the teams considered to be the best and finding the best\u00a0match-ups for any given week.<\/p>\n

And, so far, I would like to think we have done a pretty good job:<\/p>\n

Notre Dame<\/a> 42 \u2013 Northwestern<\/a> 35
\nFreedom <\/a>24 \u2013 Bethlehem Catholic<\/a> 21
\nFreedom<\/a>\u00a021 \u2013 Parkland<\/a> 18
\nNazareth<\/a> 35 \u2013 Freedom<\/a>\u00a033
\nNazareth<\/a>\u00a027 \u2013 Bethlehem Catholic<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 13<\/p>\n

There is no question these were the best games of the night. Except, perhaps, this past\u00a0week when Easton<\/a> beat Emmaus<\/a> by one in the waning seconds. We missed that one.\u00a0However, we will see Easton quite a bit the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

There are also other factors. On some weekends, our production crew has other\u00a0responsibilities such as the Allentown Fair<\/a>, the Celtic Classic<\/a>, and charity polo. Those\u00a0events tie up one of our two production trucks. We cannot be everywhere and our\u00a0football schedule reflects that.<\/p>\n

We also contractually support the Lafayette<\/a> football program, so their Saturday game\u00a0may negate our ability to do a high school game that day.\u00a0And please understand that our schedule is a transformational one. We may very well\u00a0have picked a game in late July and a better match-up that we did not anticipate pops up.\u00a0We will change. For instance, right now the Nazareth-Easton game (both teams are\u00a0currently undefeated) is not on our schedule. I certainly expect that will change.<\/p>\n

We thank all of you for your passion for our local coverage on all fronts. Believe me, our\u00a0goal is not to slight anyone or any program. As far as football is concerned we try to\u00a0bring the best games we can that will attract the greatest viewer interest. And then, we\u00a0hope we are right!<\/p>\n


\nABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. If the Eagles<\/a> don\u2019t get healthy quickly, they will not make the playoffs.\u00a0Sunday showed that without DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery, they have\u00a0very few weapons at Carson Wentz\u2019s disposal. It looks like 1-3 after\u00a0Thursday\u2019s matchup with the Packers<\/a>. The Cowboy<\/a>s are already 3-0.<\/p>\n

2. The headline read, \u201cAntonio Brown will never play in the NFL again\u201d. I hope\u00a0that is true!<\/p>\n

3. It appears Saquon Barkley has a high ankle sprain. He\u2019s not out for the\u00a0season, but this injury has a history of taking weeks to heal. Even with\u00a0Barkley out, rookie quarterback Daniel Jones led the Giants to a comeback\u00a0win over Tampa Bay.<\/p>\n

4. It\u2019s the final week of MLB <\/a>and the Phillies are done. It looks like the Mets\u00a0and the Cubs will not make it either. The Brewers and the Nationals appear to\u00a0be the wild card teams, but the Brewers can still pass the Cardinals for the\u00a0Division title. The Athletics appear to be a wild card lock with the Rays and\u00a0the Indians battling for the other spot. Wild card scenarios make the end of\u00a0the season interesting, for sure.<\/p>\n

5. There is no doubt that the Nazareth Blue Eagles are the surprise of the football\u00a0season thus far. With back-to-back wins over Freedom and Bethlehem\u00a0Catholic, can they avoid a letdown this Friday at Parkland? Tune in to RCN-TV for the LIVE telecast at 7:00pm on Friday night. Lafayette<\/a> takes on Penn<\/a>\u00a0on Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm, also on RCN-TV.<\/p>\n
