Please forgive me if this blog sounds like I am just rambling, because I am just not as lucid (cough!) as I usually am.\u00a0 It\u2019s just as I come to work on a Monday morning, I suffer from sleep deprivation.\u00a0 It\u2019s not easy being a sports fan and sometimes it\u2019s down-right exhausting.\u00a0 This weekend was tortuous.<\/p>\n

I understand the Ryder Cup<\/a> needs to be in Europe every other time the Americans compete against the Europeans.\u00a0 What I do not understand is why Paris?\u00a0 Why not England?\u00a0 I have no problem watching Wimbledon<\/a>.\u00a0 I kind of enjoy \u201cBreakfast at Wimbledon\u201d.\u00a0 But The Ryder Cup golf came on at 2:00 AM on Friday morning!\u00a0 2:00 AM!\u00a0 There was a time in my younger days when I just might be coming home at that time, but I cannot remember ever getting up at that time.<\/p>\n

I know \u2013 I know \u2013 I have TIVO. \u00a0I can get up at a reasonable hour and watch 6-7 hours of golf at my leisure.\u00a0 But, there is no leisure on the weekend.\u00a0 On Saturday, there is football and there is work.\u00a0 Once the golf ended on Saturday midday, I was reviewing the game notes for the Lafayette<\/a>–Central Connecticut State<\/a> game (yes, I do research), taking a shower, and preparing to leave the house.<\/p>\n

But wait, I had to go back to the TIVO.\u00a0 Penn State<\/a>–Ohio State<\/a> was going to start while I was still at Lafayette.\u00a0 Notre Dame<\/a> was playing Stanford<\/a> at the same time.\u00a0 Thank goodness, TIVO is quick and easy to operate.\u00a0 Set it up and exit.<\/p>\n

My night was planned \u2013 do a game \u2013 watch a game and parts of another game and try to get some sleep.\u00a0 But when I came home, my wife, rightfully, wanted to chat.\u00a0 I gave her my undivided attention (most of it, anyway).\u00a0 I did not start the Penn State game until 11:00 PM, with the hope that it would not be close and I could check in on Notre Dame and call it a day (and night and early morning).\u00a0 The Penn State game came down to the very end; Notre Dame won without as much drama and it was 2:00AM when I rolled over, but a bit wired after the Penn State loss!!\u00a0 Suffice it to say, sleep did not come right away.<\/p>\n

Guess when the Ryder Cup started on Sunday morning?\u00a0 6:00 AM!!\u00a0 TIVO again, but the NFL<\/a> starts at 1:00 \u2013 more TIVO.\u00a0 Eagles<\/a> at 1:00; Saquon Barkley at 4:30!\u00a0 OMG!\u00a0 OMG!\u00a0 I am starting to lose it.\u00a0 My wife would like to go to the Celtic Classic<\/a> \u2013 What???<\/p>\n

I am beginning to feel like a Stephen King<\/a> character in one of his horror stories.\u00a0 I\u2019m running on empty, ready to crack.\u00a0 Someone needed to slap me in the face and say, \u201cSnap out of it!\u201d\u00a0 Then I realized, there is Sunday Night Football.\u00a0 That can\u2019t be.\u00a0 I have had about 14 hours of sleep since Friday night.\u00a0 Those games go to 11:30 PM.\u00a0 I decided not to watch and check on the score from time to time.\u00a0 But I did watch the end until (you guessed it) 11:30 PM.<\/p>\n

So here I am on Monday morning – up at 6:25 AM and at my desk by 8:15, writing this.\u00a0 My lids are a bit heavy; I can shut the door; and, if I don\u2019t snore, then maybe\u2026.
\nABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. One thing did surprise me, besides the Ravens<\/a> win against the Steelers<\/a>, on Sunday night. Do you realize (I did not) that the Ravens have not given up a second-half touchdown this year?\u00a0 No other team can say that.\u00a0 Pittsburgh had only 47 total yards in the second half on Sunday night.\u00a0 Very impressive.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Through four weeks, the NFL is impossible to predict. Philadelphia loses along with Atlanta<\/a>, Indianapolis<\/a>, and Pittsburgh.\u00a0 All were favored to win.\u00a0 Cleveland<\/a> looks like they may be better and then lose to Oakland<\/a>.\u00a0 Dallas<\/a> wins in the final seconds; three games go overtime, etc.\u00a0 \u201cGary\u2019s Guesses\u201d are not what they used to be, mostly right \u2013 SO FAR!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Carson Wentz was sacked four times yesterday and hit 11 times. The defensive secondary was not good.\u00a0 And the Vikings<\/a> are next \u2013 is 2-3 a possibility?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        1. Monday, Major League Baseball<\/a> offered up two divisional tiebreaker games for the first time in history. There had been ten other one-game divisional tie-breakers, but never two in one year.\u00a0 The last one was in 2013.\u00a0 Another difference is that in previous tiebreaker games, the loser was done.\u00a0 Here, the losers plays in the wild-card game.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. Lafayette won their first game of the season beating Central Connecticut State this past Saturday. They now have a bye week before getting into the heart of their Patriot League<\/a> schedule.\u00a0 There is no bye week for the RCN-TV sports team \u2013 Friday night has Easton<\/a> at Freedom<\/a> LIVE and Whitehall<\/a> at Parkland<\/a> at 9:30 PM.\u00a0 On Saturday Emmaus<\/a> will play Central Catholic<\/a> at 7:00 PM.\u00a0 Join us.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
