I am sure you have heard the phrase, \u201cThe greatest thing since sliced bread\u201d.\u00a0 Sliced bread was invented in 1928 \u2013 there has to be something by now considered greater!\u00a0 And I have found it \u2013 it\u2019s my TiVo box powered by RCN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With my technical knowledge, my TiVo box powered by RCN is just a thing that records shows.\u00a0 If you need a better definition, \u201cIt\u2019s an electronic device that records video in a digital format to a disk drive\u201d (or it\u2019s a thing that records shows).\u00a0 The prototype of today\u2019s product first appeared in 1999.<\/p>\n

This past Sunday, I was absolutely convinced there is no better invention since\u2026 well, you know.\u00a0 Imagine my dilemma \u2013 the Miami Dolphins<\/a> are playing the Cleveland Browns<\/a> and I need Miami to win the game because I need Miami to win the game (this is my way of taking the fifth).\u00a0 And right around the same time, the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> are ready to kick off against the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> (the NFL state championship!)\u00a0 And at the same time professional golfers are trying to decide which player will win $10 million.\u00a0 And the Red Zone<\/a> is showing all the other NFL games that are finishing up and the ones just starting.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll start with the Browns-Dolphins.\u00a0 Every NFL fan knows how inept the Browns are.\u00a0 But, on this day, when I NEED them to lose, they are locked in a 24-24 tie with seconds to go and looking at, by NFL standards, a short field goal for the win.\u00a0 Browns\u2019 kicker Cody Parker<\/a> pulled the kick to the left, missing his third, that\u2019s right, his THIRD, field goal of the day (Lafayette\u2019s Jake Bissell would have made them all).\u00a0 In overtime, Miami wins.\u00a0 Did I mention I NEEDED them to win!<\/p>\n

I put the TiVo on pause for the Eagles and the golf to watch that finish.\u00a0 Now I pick up the Eagles and they are playing much better than anyone thought they would.\u00a0 Carson Wentz<\/a> is having quite a start as is the defense.\u00a0 The Eagles are scoring and not allowing the Steelers to do anything on offense.\u00a0 I need a commercial to get to the golf.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, there is no shortage of commercials during NFL games.\u00a0 Off to the Tour Championship<\/a> in Atlanta.\u00a0 I pick up where I paused that match just to see Rory McIlroy hit an iron 137 yards into the 16th<\/sup> hole for a eagle two on a par 4.\u00a0 He goes on to tie Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell for first place and a playoff is necessary.\u00a0 If McIlroy wins the playoff, he wins the Championship AND the FedEx Cup and will pocket $11.5 million.\u00a0 But, thankfully, golf takes time between shots.<\/p>\n

Back to the Eagles, I look in on the Red Zone; keep tabs on the golf; explain to my wife why I cannot eat dinner NOW!!\u00a0 I\u2019m exhausted\u2026 back to golf (McIlroy wins it all!)\u2026back to the Eagles (they crush the Steelers)\u2026back to Red Zone (I watch EVERY touchdown from EVERY game)\u2026 it\u2019s never-ending.\u00a0 But, I see it all!!\u00a0 TiVo!\u00a0 TiVo!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s for supper?\u00a0 Ham and cheese between SLICED BREAD!\u00a0 Sliced bread\u2026Still, a great invention.<\/p>\n

ABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Eagles\u2019 rookie quarterback Carson Wentz is the first player in NFL history with 100-plus attempts, 60-plus completions, 5-plus touchdowns, and zero interceptions in his first three career games. Now that\u2019s special.<\/li>\n
  2. And how about Eagles\u2019 head coach Doug Pederson? The Eagles dominated the Steelers on Sunday every way possible.\u00a0 No matter how you look at it, that involves great coaching.<\/li>\n
  3. Most of the time, teams in the NFL look forward to a bye week. The way the Eagles have started the season, they probably would just like to keep on playing.\u00a0 The Lions and the Redskins are up next and both games are on the road.<\/li>\n
  4. Rest in peace, Arnie. We will certainly miss you.\u00a0 One of my favorite interviews back in 2000.<\/li>\n
  5. On Friday, September 30, the RCN-TV sports teams get a chance to see the undefeated Emmaus Green Hornets as they take on Freedom LIVE at 7:00 PM followed by a solid Bethlehem Catholic team facing an Easton team that needs a win after two straight losses. That game is on at 10:00 PM.\u00a0 On Saturday at 3:30 PM, Lafayette opens the Patriot League season hosting Holy Cross.\u00a0 Watch it all on RCN channel 4\/1004 HD.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
