{"id":75325,"date":"2014-05-05T19:58:28","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T19:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rcntv.rcn.com\/?p=75325"},"modified":"2023-04-11T19:40:27","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T19:40:27","slug":"the-sportstalk-shop-nfl-draft-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.astound.com\/atvn\/the-sportstalk-shop-nfl-draft-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"The SportsTalk Shop: NFL Draft Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The commencement of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfl.com\/draft\/2014\">NFL Draft 2014<\/a> is almost upon us.<\/p>\n<p>Before you settle in for all the festivities and start price shopping for jerseys of your favorite team\u2019s newest players, I want to provide you with the latest rumors, insights and possibilities on who\u2019s going where, what team is doing what, and any surprises that might be lurking for this year\u2019s three-day event.<\/p>\n<p>First, here are insights from some of the NFL beat writers who joined us on our most recent \u201c<strong>RCN SportsTalk<\/strong>\u201d show, discussing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philadelphiaeagles.com\/\">Eagles<\/a>\u2019 draft direction, DeSean Jackson\u2019s departure and the top pick in the draft overall (the entire program is available to watch for free on RCN On-Demand).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RCN SportsTalk: NFL Draft 2014 \/ DeSean Jackson&#039;s Departure\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bphu_IVPHYY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Now, here are a few more bits of information from our sources on what to watch for in this year\u2019s draft:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Don\u2019t expect the Eagles to \u201cstand pat.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nThey\u2019ve already made several incredibly risky moves\u2014the biggest of these in releasing their most dynamic player, DeSean Jackson\u2014so don\u2019t be surprised if they make a move. The Eagles do have some depth on the line and rumors continue to swirl that <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/13239\/brandon-graham\">Brandon Graham<\/a>, who never quite fit in comfortably to the Birds\u2019 new defense, might be one piece that gets swapped in order for the team to move up in the draft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Expect to hear all-Manziel, all-the-time on Thursday.<\/strong><br \/>\nRight or wrong, the NFL, ESPN and all the national media outlets love to overexpose someone at the NFL draft, and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-football\/player\/_\/id\/517475\/johnny-manziel\">Johnny Football<\/a>\u201d will be the guy this year. Rumored to be drafted anywhere from third to twenty-third, the former Aggies quarterback will be talked about early and often in Thursday\u2019s \u201cDay One\u201d events, and probably even more so in the weeks and months to follow, regardless of whether he succeeds or not.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Look for the SEC to do some gloating.<\/strong><br \/>\nWhile they will no doubt lose a ton of talent\u2014again&#8211;due to this year\u2019s draft, the SEC will be able to brag about having as many as nine players from their conference selected in the first round. I figure Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina and Auburn\u2019s Greg Robinson go in the first five selections, and Manziel, along with fellow Texas A&amp;M standouts Jake Matthews and Mike Evans, are next to go, with plenty more talent from this conference left for other teams to pick up before the draft\u2019s second round gets underway.<\/p>\n<p>Who do you think will be drafted #1 this year, and where do you think Manziel will end up?
