I know this blog is called \u201cBehind the Mike\u201d, but this week it would be better titled, \u201cBehind The Computer\u201d.\u00a0 I thought you might be interested in how news and sports people find some of the stories that they report.\u00a0 You probably often wonder how a reporter went out and found some of the unique stories and people that make up their columns, their TV reports, their radio interviews.\u00a0 Well, many times, those stories just come to them.<\/p>\n

Each week, I am offered some \u201cwonderful opportunity\u201d (their words, not mine) to interview a person on a variety of subjects.\u00a0 Since I am basically a play-by-play broadcaster and our local programming is limited in scope, those anonymous press agents are seeking out the wrong person.\u00a0 However, I always find their proposals quite interesting.\u00a0 Let me share the last ten I have gotten and, by the way, these have come in just this past week.\u00a0 The comments in parentheses are mine:<\/p>\n

  1. Undercover Agent\u2019s Life Made into a Movie \u00a0(I have seen this movie many times)<\/li>\n
  2. College Basketball Returns \u00a0(I never thought it wouldn\u2019t)<\/li>\n
  3. Freshman Wins Heisman \u00a0(This would be the same person who wanted to discuss the return of college basketball \u2013 see #2.\u00a0 Like me, he, also, reads the paper and watches TV)<\/li>\n
  4. A Legend\u2019s Journey \u2013 The Life of Jake \u201cThe Snake\u201d Roberts – Former Professional Wrestler \u00a0\u00a0(Is \u201cThe Snake\u201d really a legend?)<\/li>\n
  5. Top 12 Amusement Parks for the Holidays \u00a0\u00a0(I would rather know how to afford them)<\/li>\n
  6. Life Threatening Results of Concussions \u00a0\u00a0(I already knew head injuries could be dangerous).<\/li>\n
  7. Thuzio \u2013 The Ultimate Fan Experience \u2013 With Tiki Barber \u00a0\u00a0(Play flag football with a football player; have dinner with an NFL player, etc. \u2013 Doesn\u2019t this sound like it would be very, very expensive?)<\/li>\n
  8. Sports From a Woman\u2019s Perspective \u00a0\u00a0(I get this message from my wife EVERY weekend!)<\/li>\n
  9. New Year\u2019s Revolution \u2013 What You Were Born To Do \u00a0\u00a0(So this person was born to tell others what they were born for?\u00a0 Huh?)<\/li>\n
  10. Non-surgical Facelift Uses Sound, Not Scalpel, To Help Smooth Away the Years\u2026 in Minutes \u00a0\u00a0(My personal favorite)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So, in conclusion, #10 is my favorite.\u00a0 I think, before I entertain the idea of having this person on my show, I will hold an iPod up to my face for a week.\u00a0 I wish I knew what sound works the best.<\/p>\n

    \u00a0ABOVE THE EARS (SOME MUSINGS)<\/h4>\n

    1. Our local football teams were all eliminated from the state playoffs by the Philadelphia Catholic schools.\u00a0 This has been happening with very few exceptions every year since the Catholic schools became part of the PIAA.\u00a0 The big difference seems to be the linemen.\u00a0 We need to get bigger and stronger to compete.<\/li>\n
    2. Would it be wrong if Penn State played Ohio State in a Bowl game and the money would go to charity?<\/li>\n
    3. It sure looks like there will be a Manny Pacquiao-Juan Marquez #5 after Pacquiao was knocked out cold this past weekend.\u00a0 Just let these two fight every six months.\u00a0 By the way, the replay is on HBO this Saturday.<\/li>\n
    4. The Phillies, with this week\u2019s trades, seem quite serious about contending again.\u00a0 The deals look very good right now (but it is December).<\/li>\n
    5. Got this offer this week -Jan. 7–BCS\u00a0National Championship Bowl (Notre Dame-Alabama)<\/a>. Tickets start at $1,450.00. I also have a 20 Person Suite!\u00a0 Interested??<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
